Medical College to build 100,000-square-foot building

The Medical College of Wisconsin plans to build a 100,000-square-foot building southeast of its main buildings in the Milwaukee County Regional Medical Center at 8701 Watertown Plank Road, Wauwatosa. The estimated cost of the project is $28-30 million.
The Medical College is also planning $8-10 million in renovations to its existing facilities. The renovations will provide new space for the Medical College’s medical school pathway programs, upgraded facilities for anatomy labs, multi-use teaching space and space for new technologies.
The new building will provide additional teaching space for the Medical College’s new curriculum. It will also provide made technologically advanced facilities and more space for research.
The new three-story building will have skywalks to connect the second and third floors to existing Medical College facilities.
A request for architectural proposals for the project will be released by the Medical College within the next few weeks.
The Medical College wants to begin construction in late spring of 2011 and hopes to complete the project in July of 2012.
The Medical College’s board of trustees recently endorsed planning for the construction projects.
“These new facilities will provide us with the space and infrastructure support needed for our new medical education curriculum as well as future needs for academic space,” said John Raymond Sr., Medical College president and chief executive officer.
