MATC names new president

The Milwaukee Area Technical College District Board has appointed Vicki Martin, Ph.D., president, according to an announcement the college made on Tuesday evening.

Martin, who has worked for the college since 1988, is MATC’s executive vice president and provost and has also served as chief academic officer since 2007.

Martin will be the MATC’s 10th president and will succeed President Michael Burke, Ph.D., who accepted a position as chancellor of the Riverside Community College District in Riverside, Calif., last week.

“We are confident that Dr. Martin will provide strong leadership for the college,” said Bobbie Webber, chairperson of the MATC District Board. “Throughout her career she has been an advocate for our students and understands the critical role MATC plays in the success and growth of local businesses.”

Martin is credited for helping lead a number of initiatives throughout the course of her tenure at MATC, including the development of the Faculty Innovation Center and Women in Technology Center in the downtown Milwaukee campus and the expansion of service and engaged learning efforts in all academic programs. Additionally, she has helped provide funding to faculty and staff through Innovation Grants totaling more than $300,000.

Prior to her position as provost, Martin served as vice president of MATC’s Oak Creek Campus and director of strategic planning from 2004-2007.

Her new role as president will be effective July 2.

“I appreciate this opportunity and am committed to making MATC the premier comprehensive technical college that enriches, empowers and transforms lives,” Martin said. “Student success and innovation are my priorities. I am committed to enhancing the region through the college’s numerous services and programs and developing strong relationships with our business community.”
