Just after midnight on Saturday morning, construction crews with J.H. Findorff & Son Inc. will begin a 4,000 cubic yard mat pour for the foundation of The Moderne, a 30-story residential tower that is being built at the southwest corner of Old World Third Street and Juneau Avenue in downtown Milwaukee.
The concrete pour will take 20 hours with more than 400 concrete truckloads, averaging one truck every three minutes.
“It’s going to be concrete trucks lined up forever,” said Dan Katt, business development manager for Findorff’s Milwaukee office.
About 8,100 tons of concrete will be poured for the building foundation, which is equivalent to the weight of 675 city buses.
When completed next year the Moderne will be the tallest building in downtown Milwaukee west of the Milwaukee River. The building will have 203 apartments, 14 condominiums and first floor retail space.
