Mars Cheese Castle to re-build

The Mars Cheese Castle, a Kenosha County landmark along I-94 since 1947, will be rebuilt and its iconic sign will relocated near the new store.
The cheese store is located at I-94 and Highway 142 in the Town of Paris. The building will be demolished to make way for new freeway interchange ramps that will be built as part of the I-94 reconstruction and expansion project.
“We are in the way of progress at the moment,” said Tyson Wehrmeister, assistant general manager and buyer for Mars Cheese Castle.
A new 21,004-square-foot building will be built at I-94 and Highway 142, just to the west of the current building. The 100-foot tall Mars Cheese Castle sign will be re-located to make way for the freeway project, but will remain at the intersection near the new store.
Oconomowoc-based MSI General Corp. is the designer and general contractor for the project. Site preparation began last week and construction of the new building is expected to begin this month, and be complete in March of 2011.
