Make-A-Wish Wisconsin relocating to Wauwatosa

Butler location too small for non-profit organization

Organizations:

Make-A-Wish Wisconsin is moving its headquarters from Butler to Wauwatosa to accommodate the organization’s growth over the last two decades.

The organization signed a five-year lease for 10,050-square feet at 11020 W. Plank Court. The group will move in mid-March from 13195 W. Hampton Ave., where its headquarters has been for more than 25 years, said Forrest Doolen, Make-A-Wish Wisconsin, spokesman.

“When we started, our office had two people,” Doolen said. “Now we have 15 full-time staff, plus four to six interns and 10 to 15 volunteers.”

The new location puts Make-A-Wish closer to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, where many of its referrals come from. The new space will also allow Make-A-Wish to have a conference room again, something the organization gave up years ago for office space.

“We’ve done well and worked really hard to make sure all of our resources are for wishes, but we can’t stay here any longer,” Doolen said.

This year, Make-A-Wish will grant a record-breaking 365 wishes in Wisconsin. The organization has granted nearly 5,500 wishes since opening in Wisconsin 1984.
