Milwaukee real estate developer and UW-Madison alumnus Mark Irgens has made a $2 million gift to advance the academic mission of the university’s James A. Graaskamp Center for Real Estate.

A 1977 graduate who double-majored in real estate and finance, Irgens founded a real estate services firm in 1983 that has developed more than 200 health care and commercial real estate buildings in Milwaukee, Chicago and Phoenix, the university said Wednesday.

“With a good education, you can become anything,” said Irgens, whose wife, Susan, graduated from UW-Madison in 1978 with a master’s degree in education. “Making a gift to something that made such a big change in our lives was a natural choice.”
