Junior Achievement of Wisconsin on Tuesday held a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of construction of the 40,000-square-foot Junior Achievement of Wisconsin Kohl’s Education Center, which will be built at 11111 W. Liberty Place, in the Park Place development on Milwaukee’s far northwest side.
The total cost of the project is $6 million. Menomonee Falls-based Kohl’s Corp. contributed $3 million toward the project. Milwaukee-based Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. contributed $1 million toward the project.
The building was designed by Milwaukee-based Kahler Slater. Constructed is expected to be complete in the spring of 2011.
The facility will provide space for the JA Biz Town and JA Finance Park learning labs. The learning labs will provide hands-on experiences for students in grades 4-10 in the areas of work readiness, financial literacy and entrepreneurship skills.
“Our programs prepare young people for the real world,” said Tim Greinert, president of Junior Achievement of Wisconsin. “Every year more than 165,000 students in 7,000 classrooms throughout Wisconsin learn how to generate wealth, effectively manage it, and create jobs through entrepreneurship.”
