Racine-based Johnson Outdoors Inc. announced Wednesday it has acquired “the key assets” of Toronto-based Northport Systems Inc., which specializes in the development and application of unique digital cartography technologies and solutions.

Strong pre-season sales of products in the Humminbird brand helped drive an improved quarter for Johnson Outdoors Inc.

Northport’s operations will be integrated into Johnson Outdoors’ Minn Kota and Humminbird brands of marine electronics.

“Our ability to continue to deliver new products that enhance the outdoor recreational experience is critical to our continued success,” said Helen Johnson-Leipold, Johnson Outdoors chairman and chief executive officer. “Northport brings new cartography capabilities which can broaden our innovation horizon, accelerate speed-to-market and further enhance potential for bigger new product success and sustained growth in our global fishing brands.”

The statement announcing the acquisition indicated the parties agreed to not disclose financial terms of the deal.

Johnson Outdoors manufactures products for a variety of recreation markets including watercraft, marine electronics, diving and outdoor gear. The company has credited new product development in the Minn Kota and Humminbird brands for driving a double digit revenue increase in the first quarter of 2016.
