Inspiring healthy living

Learn more about:

The BizTimes Fittest Execs program is a celebration of leaders who have set health and wellness examples for their organizations.

Over the past eight years, local executives have shared inspirational stories about the often dramatic journeys they have taken to personal wellness. Their determination and stamina serve as motivation for not only their employees, but also for the wider business community.

More than 94 executives from more than 46 companies participated in the 2014 competition. BizTimes Fittest Execs includes both individual and team entries, and participants came from all fitness levels.

Many of the finalists cited their personal fitness with helping them relieve stress and giving them more energy to be productive at work. Their wellness habits can truly have a corporate ripple effect.

As part of the competition, participants engaged in a fitness test at the Wisconsin Athletic Club that included body composition testing, a three-minute step test, a sit and reach test, a hand grip test, push-ups, and a “plank.”

In addition, Sensia Wellness conducted a biometric screening measuring total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides and blood glucose. Results from these tests were compared to the national fitness norms for each category to determine participants’ scores.

Individual participants were required to hold the title of CEO, CFO, COO, CIO, president, executive vice president, owner, partner, executive director, mayor, city manager, or city council member at a company or government organization with at least 20 employees in southeastern Wisconsin. Teams were made up of four-person groups, with an executive team leader.

The Fittest Execs competition is sponsored by Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, the Wisconsin Athletic Club, Sensia Wellness and TEC.

The Fittest Execs awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 4 p.m. at the Wisconsin Athletic Club, N91W15700 Falls Parkway in Menomonee Falls. The event is open to the public and will offer networking with local business and community leaders, information about current health and wellness trends, and details on how wellness can impact a company’s bottom line. The awards will be followed by light appetizers and a cocktail celebration.

The Fittest Execs award ceremony will also involve a “plank-off” competition, in which the attendee who holds the longest plank will win a one-year membership to the WAC, valued at more than $1,500.
