Harley to lay off 169 in Kansas City

Milwaukee-based Harley-Davidson Inc. plans to lay off 169 employees at its Kansas City, Mo., plant beginning May 11, according to Kristen Cunningham, corporate reputation and communication manager. The layoffs are anticipated to continue through Sept. 30.

“The shift is to align with our overall production needs for the facility, as well as the decision to source work performed in the Materials Velocity Center and certain related sub-assembly work. This was a decision made after careful analysis and consideration given to our long-term manufacturing and business strategy,” Cunningham said.

Approximately 750 employees work at the 425,000-square-foot Kansas City plant, where Sportster, Dyna, V-Rod, Street and select Softail motorcycles are manufactured.
