A groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday to celebrate the start of construction for a 900-space parking structure in the redevelopment of the former Pabst brewery complex in downtown Milwaukee.

Joseph Zilber, the founder of Zilber Ltd., is redeveloping the 20-acre complex into a mixed use neighborhood. The parking structure will be built at the corner of North Ninth Street and Juneau Avenue and will have 9,000 square feet of first floor retail space. The parking structure is expected to be complete next year. "With the first office tenants moving in in the next two to three weeks and our first residential tenants moving in in the next six weeks, the start of The Brewery garage is the next critical element in the successful development of The Brewery site," said John Kersey, president of The Brewery Project LLC.
