Groundbreaking ceremony held for King Commons II

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday for the King Commons II development. The project is being developed by the Martin Luther King Economoic Development Corp. The project will consist of 24 homes on five scattered sites between North 2nd and 4th streets and along King Drive and West Hadley Street in Milwaukee. The development will include single-family homes, a duplex, a three-unit building and a four-unit building, plus 2,200 square feet of retail space in a nine-unit building on North King Drive. Rent for the residences will range from $625 to $775. The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) provided $5.6 million in affordable housing credits and $4.6 million in financing for King Commons II. The first phase of the development, King Commons I, is a three-story building along King Drive with about 5,000 square feet of commercial space and 18 apartments above it.
