Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Gordon Food Service plans to build a 16,000-square-foot Gordon Food Service Marketplace store at 1019-31 S. Green Bay Road, Mt. Pleasant.
Gordon Food Service last year built a 500,000-square-foot distribution center in Kenosha.
Gordon Food Service has also plans to build stores in West Milwaukee and Pleasant Prairie. Construction for the 11,346-square-foot Pleasant Prairie store, southwest of Highway 50 and Highway 31, is expected to begin in a few weeks said Bill Casey, a real estate manager for the company. Construction of the West Milwaukee store, which will be on Miller Park Way, is expected to begin next year he said.
Gordon Food Service plans to build more stores in the Milwaukee area, Casey said.
“We’re always looking for new locations in the Milwaukee area,” he said. “I can’t give you a number. I can’t give you any specific areas. (But) West Milwaukee will not be our only store (in the Milwaukee area).”
The company’s retail stores are targeted to restaurants, caterers and other businesses or individuals planning special events, which need to purchase a large amount of quality food.
Gordon Food Service has 134 stores in the U.S.
