Organic grocery store Good Harvest Market plans to build a new 23,000-square-foot store about a quarter mile west of its existing 12,000-square-foot store at 1850 Meadow Lane in Waukesha.

Good Harvest Market recently acquired 23 acres for the project. The new grocery store will be built on 6 acres of the property and the remaining 17 acres will remain in wetlands conservancy.

Two of the six buildable acres could be used for retail or residential development in the future.

The Good Harvest Market store at 1850 Meadow Lane, which is its only location, opened in 2005. It is in the final year of its lease there and needs more space. At the larger store, Good Harvest Market plans to increase its employment by 40 to 50 percent from the current employment of 50.

โ€œOver the last nine years, our customer base has grown, as has the demand for organic, local and gluten-free food,โ€ said Good Harvest Market co-owner Joe Nolan. โ€œWe are grateful for the support of our customers, and are looking forward to continuing to invest in the health and well-being of the entire community through our new market, cafรฉ, and educational offerings.โ€

The new store will double the size of its produce, seafood, health and beauty and wellness departments, will enlarge its prepared food offerings and triple the amount of space available for bulk sales. The new store will also be able to triple the size and available seating, including outdoor seating, for the Harvest Cafรฉ, which will overlook the land conservancy.
