Four Points by Sheraton hotel planned in Oak Creek

Illinois-based developer Syner G plans to build a 107-room Four Points by Sheraton hotel and a 1,800-space covered parking lot for airport travelers as part of a development project it plans to build on a 26-acre site southeast of Howell Avenue and College Avenue, near Mitchell International Airport, in Oak Creek.

The hotel would have several amenities including a full-service restaurant, bar, fitness center, swimming pool, business center and meeting facilities.

Syner G is seeking $4.5 million in tax incremental financing for the project. City officials want the developer to guarantee that the development will be worth $21 million to justify the TIF, said Doug Seymour, director of community development for the city.

The Four Points by Sheraton brand focuses on business travelers. The hotel would be managed by Modesto, Calif.-based Rim Hospitality.

The only Four Points by Sheraton hotel currently located in the Milwaukee area is in Brown Deer. The Wyndham Milwaukee Airport hotel at 4747 S. Howell Ave. was previously known as a Four Points by Sheraton hotel before switching to the Wyndham brand. The 508-room Wyndham Milwaukee Airport hotel recently went into receivership.

The 1,800-space covered parking lot in the Syner G project would provide valet service for travelers using the airport.
In future phases of the development, Syner G plans to add two more hotels, a banquet facility, a pet motel and two restaurants.

“It’s a pretty ambitious project,” Seymour said.

Several hotels have been added in the airport area in recent years as passenger traffic at Mitchell has reached record levels. A Courtyard by Marriott hotel is under construction at 4620 S. 5th St. near the airport. Last year a 143-room Hilton Garden Inn hotel opened at 5890 S. Howell Ave. In 2009, a 100-room Candlewood suites hotel at 6440 S. 13th St. and a 120-room Fairfield Inn & Suites hotel at 6460 S. 13th St., opened in Oak Creek, and an 82-room Sleep Inn and Suites hotel opened at 4600 S. 6th St., Milwaukee.
