St. Paul, Minn.-based CommonBond Communities and Bishop’s Creek Community Development Corp. held a celebration on Monday to commemorate the completion of the first building in the Bishop’s Creek redevelopment project of the former Kaiser tannery site at Hampton Avenue and North 32nd Street in Milwaukee’s central city.
The building, Bishop’s Creek Family Housing Community, has 55 apartments. So far 37 of the units have been leased. The project received federal affordable housing tax credits, so the apartments are leased to resident whose income is less than 60 percent of the county’s median income.
Bishop’s Creek Development Corp. plans to redevelop the rest of the former tannery property with a mix of residential, office, retail and hotel development.
