Families near Jackson gas spill hire attorneys

More than 90 families who own property in the Jackson, Wis., area have retained the law firms of Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. of Milwaukee and Peter G. Angelos of Baltimore, Md., to represent their interests with respect to a gas spill which occurred on July 17.

On that date, a drop in pressure was noted in a gasoline pipeline which runs through the town of Jackson and northward to Green Bay. The pipeline is operated by Buckeye Partners L.P. and West Shore Pipeline Company.
Early estimates show at least 55,000 gallons of gasoline escaped into the ground and only approximately 2,000 gallons have been retrieved.  Multiple wells in the area have tested positive for the contaminants associated with the spill.
Concerns over adverse health consequences, reduction in property values and disruption of the use of their property are issues that are being evaluated. Many of the residents remain unable to use their wells and have been drinking bottled water since the date of the spill.
