Dynamatic Corp., the Kenosha-based manufacturer that in February filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Delaware where the company was incorporated, has been purchased by a newly-formed Sturtevant company headed in part by a former Dynamatic employee.
Randy Tans, who held sales and marketing positions with Dynamatic, is listed by the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions as the registered agent for Drive Source International, 7900 Durand Ave., Sturtevant. Tans said an official announcement was forthcoming from company president David Fenton stating Dynamatic would be moved to Drive Source’s Sturtevant location.
Dynamatic had manufactured air-cooled adjustable-speed drives, liquid-cooled adjustable-speed couplings, brakes and adjustable-frequency dynamometers, specialty motors and digital and solid-state controllers. Some of the equipment manufactured was used in automobile emissions testing.
Ties to Canada?
According to information filed with the State of Florida, where Drive Source was incorporated, the mailing address for the company is a Midlothian, Va. office leased by Torspec International USA, the United States presence of a Canadian competitor.
But Torspec President Andrew Fenton said that there is no relationship between the two companies, although he is related to Dynamatic’s president.
Drive Source, according to Andrew, was a one-man firm his brother David was running while David served as president of Torspec, the company their father Alan founded in 1973. After their father’s death, Andrew said he had a falling out with his brother, who left Torspec to buy the competitor the two had, with their father, pounded into submission just a few years ago.
"I still love my brother, but to see him jump ship and revive the competition …" Andrew said, his voice trailing off.
