DOT reimbursed for Milwaukee Intermodal Station property taxes

The state Department of Transportation announced that it has been reimbursed in full for taxes, interest, and penalties it paid to the city of Milwaukee to cover taxes owed for the Milwaukee Intermodal Station in downtown Milwaukee.
The $341,461 reimbursement was paid to the DOT last week by Racine-based Johnson Bank, which financed construction of the station.
The DOT paid $341,461 to the city treasurer in August when it learned the developer, Milwaukee Intermodal Partners LLC, had not paid property taxes on the station for the years 2008 and 2009.
DOT officials say they made the payment in order to ensure the continued, uninterrupted operation of the station and to protect taxpayers’ interest in the facility.
