CommunityConnect HealthPlan will now be known as Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
Both have shared the same parent company but not the same name.
The name change, said Anthem, is “designed to help avoid potential confusion for Anthem members, health care providers and regulators, and to better describe the company’s comprehensive product offerings across a variety of health insurance programs.”
“As people transition through different phases of their lives, it’s likely they’ll move between different types of health insurance coverage,” said Larry Schreiber, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Wisconsin. “We want to make it as easy as possible for them to find the health insurance they’ve come to know and trust, no matter whether they’re getting that insurance through a government-sponsored health plan, purchasing on their own, or receiving benefits through their employer. Uniting all of our products under the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield brand name will make it easier for everyone to make those transitions and make more informed decisions about their health benefits.”
In Eastern Wisconsin, CommunityConnect HealthPlan is the trade name used by Compcare Health Services Insurance Corporation for its insurance policies offered through the BadgerCare Plus programs. Anthem said, “It is important to note that it is only the DBA/trade name that is changing. The underlying company insuring the benefits is – and will remain – Compcare.”
The change is effective July 1.
Anthem said, “Existing CommunityConnect-contracted health care providers have already been informed of the name change. Between now and July, a marketing and advertising campaign will communicate the renaming to the health plan’s members and the general public. Letters will be mailed to current CommunityConnect members in early June, with television, radio, outdoor and digital ads supporting the awareness campaign running from May through August.”
“The name change to Anthem will not impact CommunityConnect members’ ability to receive care before, during or after the transition, or to see their established primary care provider or clinic. Current CommunityConnect members with questions about the name change should contact the customer service number on the back of their membership identification cards.”
