After Joe and Jennifer Bartolotta, of the Bartolotta Restaurants, organized a team of 225 walkers at last year’s Komen Southeast Wisconsin Race for the Cure, they took their involvement in the race this year a few steps further.

More than 30 employees from Wells Fargo & Company and Rockwell Automation are teaming up Friday for community service projects focused on enhancing aesthetics and community in the Harambee neighborhood. Employee volunteers will paint and stain porches for homeowners, decorate and fill planters in the neighborhood, and create window boards youth can decorate to hang over boards on abandoned properties.

Scientists from the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and Froedtert Hospital will use a one-year, $50,000 grant from the Clinical and Translational Science Institute of Southeast Wisconsin (CTSI) to research a specific type of heart failure and pinpoint biomarkers that could help with earlier diagnosis and treatment. Researchers will focus on identifying biomarkers involved in cardiac dysfunction, which might allow clinicians to diagnose and decide a treatment route before irreversible cardiac damage affects a patient.
