Fond du Lac-based C.D. Smith Construction Inc. was been selected to be the general contractor for the Kimpton hotel project in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward.
C.D. Smith recently submitted a request to the city for a street and alley occupancy permit while it builds the hotel.
The nine-story, 158-room hotel will be built at the northeast corner of Broadway and Chicago Street.

The hotel is expected to open in 2016. Milwaukee-based HKS Holdings LLC is the developer for the project. The design firm for the project is Kahler Slater.
San Francisco-based Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, which will operate the Third Ward hotel, announced in September that construction will begin by the end of the year.
