Former Banta executive named interim CEO of U.S. Olympic Committee
The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) recently announced that its chief executive officer Jim Scherr will resign, effective March 31, and Stephanie Streeter, the former chairman, president and chief executive officer of Menasha-based Banta Corp., has been named the interim CEO of the USOC.
Banta was acquired by Chicago-based R. Donnelley & Sons Co. in 2007. Streeter, 51, was named CEO of Banta in 2002 and led the company through the acquisition.
Now Streeter will lead the USOC as Chicago is trying to land the 2016 Summer Games. An Olympics in Chicago could help fill hotel rooms in southeastern Wisconsin, and some cycling events for the Chicago games would be held in the Madison area.
Streeter is a member of the board of directors for Chicago 2016, the Green Bay Packers, Menomonee Falls-based Kohl’s Corp., Akron, Ohio-based Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, and Catalyst, a professional woman’s research and advisory organization.
Streeter was a four-year starter on the Stanford University women’s basketball team and graduated from Stanford in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree in political science.
Garcia is new chef at Hotel Metro
Executive chef Jerry Garcia recently joined Hotel Metro as its new culinary leader. Garcia, who has been seen on the Fox Sports broadcast of Milwaukee Bucks and Milwaukee Brewers games giving viewers tailgate and cooking tips, joins Hotel Metro and Café Metro at a time when buying local and organic is gaining public attention.
Garcia enters a kitchen that is recognized as 80-percent green compliant and a menu that plans on expanding the use of local businesses.
"This is a time for businesses to look in our own backyard and see what we need and who we can help," said Hotel Metro managing partner Jamie Hummert. "We already use a variety of local cheese and plan to buy our organic produce and meats locally as well."
"I’ve been fortunate in my career and have worked at some really great restaurants," Garcia said, "but this is the first time I have joined an environment with a mission. Mr. Hummert has given me carte blanche to bring my cooking and kitchen philosophies to the table, and he sees that I understand the hotel’s mission. Guests to Café Metro, as well as our ballroom and Zen on 7, will be enjoying some of my best work to date."
