  • Thursday, Sept. 27, the Medical College of Wisconsin will host the next event in its 6th annual luncheon series from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Woman’s Club of Wisconsin, 813 E. Kilbourn Avenue in Milwaukee. Open to the public, the event will focus on “From Silence to Sound: How Cochlear Implants Provide Hearing” with a presentation by Dr. Christina Runge, associate professor of otolaryngology and communication sciences, about technology that restores hearing or allows individuals who are hearing impaired to hear for the first time. The luncheon series supports the mission of Women in Science to spotlight promising research and provide financial assistance to female scientists at the Medical College of Wisconsin.   • Thursday, Sept. 27, Cresa Milwaukee will host a brat fry in celebration of its new office at CityCenter, 735 N. Water Street in downtown Milwaukee. The commercial real estate advisory firm will give free brats away to the first 1,000 guests beginning at 4 p.m. in the CityCenter Courtyard. A ribbon cutting will take place before the brats are distributed. The event will run until 6 p.m. or until all 1,000 brats have been given out. The celebration will carry on rain or shine.   
  • Thursday, Sept. 27, guest artist Dan Holland, of Pixar Animation Studios, will discuss the creative process in producing films at Pixar Animation Studios. The lecture, hosted by the Milwaukee Art Museum, builds off the “Animation: Art Goes to the Movies” exhibit in the Kohl’s Art Generation Gallery at the museum. The event will take place in the Lubar Auditorium at the museum, 700 N. Art Museum Drive in Milwaukee beginning at 6:15 p.m. Cost is free with museum admission.   • Thursday, Sept. 27, through Thursday, Oct, 11, the Milwaukee Film Festival will celebrate the art of film with showings of more than 200 films. Film categories include specific tributes to film directors, spotlight presentations, competition, documentary festival favorites, fiction festival favorites and more. Films will be shown at the Landmark Oriental Theatre, the Landmark Downer Theatre, and Fox Bay Cinema Grill in Whitefish Bay. An opening night celebration will take place Thursday, Sept. 27 from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Discover World at Pier Wisconsin, 500 N. Harbor Drive in Milwaukee. Admission is $25 for the general public, $15 for the general public with opening night film ticket, $15 for Milwaukee Film members and free with a festival pass.   • Friday, Sept. 28, the Waukesha County Business Alliance will hold its monthly One-on-One with Public Officials meeting from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at Kolb+Co SC, 13400 Bishops Lane, Suite 300, in Brookfield. The meeting, which offers an informal setting for businesses and Waukesha County elected officials to sit down for discussion, will give attendees a chance to hear from Lt.   • Friday, Sept. 28, UW-Milwaukee will host the 9th Annual SE2 Sustainability and Energy Efficiency Conference in the UW Milwaukee Union, WI Room Theater, 2200 E. Kenwood Blvd. in Milwaukee. Presented by the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance (WGBA), the conference will include three keynote speeches by nationally known sustainability leaders, six breakout sessions focused on topics such as the latest trends and technology in sustainability and energy efficiency, networking opportunities, and an exhibitor showcase. Thanks to a partnership between the WGBA and HGA Architects and Engineers of Milwaukee, for every individual who attends a donation will be made to the national home improvement nonprofit, Rebuilding Together Greater Milwaukee.   • Thursday, Oct. 4, the Alliance Breakfast Club within the Waukesha County Business Alliance will hold its monthly breakfast meeting from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Country Springs Hotel, 2810 Golf Road in Pewaukee. The event will focus on Raising Performance Horizons and will specifically discuss the benefits of performance contracts as well as ways to help employee goals better correspond with company goals. Kevin Eichner, president of Ottawa University, will present at the event. Cost to attend is $20 in advance for members, $25 at the door for members, $30 in advance for nonmembers and $35 at the door for nonmembers.   • Tuesday, Oct. 9, the Milwaukee Public Museum will kick off its Lunch and Lecture series with a presentation titled “A Trip through Wisconsin’s Geologic History.” The lecture, led by Patricia Burke, collection manager of geology, will traverse Wisconsin’s geological evolution over billions of years. An optional docent tour begins at 10:30 a.m. The lecture will be held at 11:30 a.m. in Gromme Lecture Hall, and a buffet lunch will take place at 12:30 p.m. in the Garden Gallery at the museum, 800 W. Wells Street in Milwaukee. Cost to attend the event is $19 for museum members and $24 for nonmembers. Cost to attend the lecture only is $5 for nonmembers and free for members.
