Braeger owner talking to Chrysler about new dealership

Organizations:

The owner of the Braeger dealerships is in talks with Chrysler officials about opening a new dealership on the south side of the metro area.

Chrysler LLC recently announced plans to cut ties with the Braeger Chrysler Jeep dealership at 6133 S. 27th St., Greenfield, and the Schlossmann’s Dodge City dealership at 4640 S. 27th St., Milwaukee

According to Todd Reardon, the owner of the Braeger dealerships, that would leave the south side of the metro Milwaukee area with no Chrysler dealerships.

Reardon says he is in talks with Chrysler officials about opening a new dealership on the south side of the metro area that would combine the Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge brands.

"We’re in talks with (Chrysler) about what they are going to do on the south side of Milwaukee," Reardon said. "(The south side of the metro area) is a big market to abandon. I just don’t know how you are going to service the south side of Milwaukee from (dealerships on) Highway 100 and (in) Waukesha County. It’s really an issue of convenience, that’s what we’re arguing."

Reardon says there are no specific plans yet as to where a new Chrysler Jeep Dodge dealership could be located.

Meanwhile the owners of Schlossmann’s Dodge City say they will continue to sell Subaru vehicles at the dealership, and are changing its name to Subaru City. The dealership will no longer sell new Dodge vehicles, as of June 9, but it will keep its Dodge body shop open and will continue to provide service to Dodge vehicles.

“We want people to know we are committed to the business of selling and servicing cars, including Chrysler products,” said Mike Schlossmann, vice president and co-owner of the dealership. “For now, we want to take care of our customers, build up our Subaru franchise and look for other franchises down the road.”

The dealership, which currently employs 68 people, will lay off eight workers and transfer four of its technicians to Dodge City-Chrysler-Jeep in Brookfield.

In addition to Subaru City in Milwaukee, and Dodge City-Chrysler-Jeep in Brookfield, the Schlossmann family also owns Honda City in Greenfield.
