Organizations:

As Summerfest flavors its lineup with bigger names in music each year, it has also beefed up its menu options so that concertgoers can have a full culinary experience on festival grounds.

Among the most exotic food creations on this year’s menu is the bacon bottom pizza from Solo. Slices of the pizza, gluten-free and available as pepperoni and sausage or barbeque pork, feature a bed of bacon topped with all kinds of goodness. The barbeque pork selection includes smokey gouda and mozzarella cheese, red onion, cilantro and pork chicharrón. Knives and forks are a necessity with this one.

This year’s festival platter also offers foodies the one-of-a-kind WisCONEsin from Water Street Brewery. The meaty item consists of a pretzel cone packed with German Rotkohl, chicken schnitzel, a potato pancake wedge, crispy cinnamon apple straws Water Street Brewery Oktoberfest reduction. While it’s a challenge to devour gracefully, each bite is worth the mess.

At Flannery’s, chip lovers can find an entrée of potato chips on a stick, dressed with ranch seasoning for an extra kick. And at Trinity, the Chicken ‘n Waffle Cone has returned for those who want a treat that’s salty and sweet in one. Folded into a waffle cone is chicken, bacon and coleslaw – all with a hint of a maple flavor.

For those ready to dive straight into dessert, Classy Girl Cupcakes offers a variety of cupcake flavors, including cinnamon pecan French toast, confetti and salted caramel fudge. The cupcake vendor’s push pop options include a rich Ghirardelli Chocolate.

Other noteworthy meal selections include bacon wrapped cherrywood smoked pork belly from Saz’s Dockside, French fried meatballs from Mille’s, and Killarney chicken bites from Burke’s Lakeside.

On Wednesday, AJ Bombers – famous for its peanut buttery Barrie Burger – tweeted that its first Summerfest customer would win a free lunch.

Tonight’s headlining act at the Marcus Amphitheater is Carrie Underwood.

Tonight’s reporter’s pick for music: Visit the Uline Warehouse Stage at 8 p.m. to see The Living Statues. The Milwaukee-based rock and roll band also performed during last year’s Summerfest and has been gaining a steady national following.
