What was the smartest thing your company did in the past year?
We hired a diverse team of extremely talented people. Another smart thing was re-evaluating our marketing strategy to be more community focused.
What’s new at your company?
Aside from our spa being brand new, we have a new service coming in January – The new Sugar Foot Scrub! A treat for your feet! It has been a real hit where it was piloted because most people neglect their feet in the winter. With the Sugar Foot Scrub, you can incorporate a quick scrub for your feet into your massage. Double therapy in a relaxing treatment.
Do you plan to hire any additional staff or make any significant capital investments in your company in the next year?
We do plan to have exciting growth as everyone learns about our location and the great benefits of our Massage Envy Spa wellness program. With this growth, we do plan to add to our team of licensed massage therapists.
What will be your company’s main challenges in the next year?
Managing the growth. It will be a challenge to balance the staffing and increased customer traffic as we grow.
What’s the hottest trend in your industry?
Our industry is not really “trendy.” However, one of the modalities that our customers have been asking about lately is Cranial Sacral. There have been new studies that confirm the benefits of cranial sacral massage for autism.
Do you have a business mantra?
Not sure if this is a mantra or more of a philosophy. I believe in servant leadership. I have to admit that this belief has been tested in bringing the vision of the spa to fruition. With a new staff, equipment and processes and newly remodeled space, opening the spa has been one of my biggest challenges. However, I still believe that one of the reasons that I have been blessed with this opportunity is so that I can provide a workplace where people are valued and given a chance to be creative and develop to their fullest potential. We have a wonderful team of front desk associates, therapists and estheticians, and they all offer some of the best expertise and skills in our industry. In addition, they have other talents that we incorporate in our marketing and customer service initiatives. We all take great pride in our spa and are a team in making it the best ever.
From a business standpoint, who do you look up to?
My dad. He has challenged himself many times over his 81 years of life, including joining the military at a very young age. He is pretty fearless and has great confidence in himself. He has started a number of successful companies since his retirement and proudly provided job opportunities for many. He has a big heart and gives work to many who otherwise do not have a job. He and my mom live in North Carolina, and I miss them a lot.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Lately my “free” time has not been much. On Christmas, I just wanted to cook for my family so I did. Otherwise, I like to read and exercise and play with my beautiful granddaughter Emma.
