CKPR

Regional economic development group Milwaukee 7 recently named CKPR as its public relations agency of record. The announcement kicked off a new campaign to draw global media attention and business investment to the city and to the seven counties of the southeastern Wisconsin region. CKPR’s roles will include forging a global media relations strategy, developing key messages and leveraging the media to build the region’s brand. CKPR will also orchestrate a program to coordinate how corporate and civic communicators promote the seven-county region.

Centare Group

Centare Group, a software development and consulting firm in Brookfield, has extended its family of corporate partners to include Ektron, Inc., Nashua, N.H. Ektron designs web content management systems. Ektron is Centare Group’s fourth corporate partner. Other partners include Microsoft, IBM and Actuate.

Wisconsin Technology Council

The annual “Seize the Day” award, which celebrates entrepreneurial leaders who have been crucial to Wisconsin’s economic growth, has been renamed to honor the late Ken Hendricks, a Beloit businessman and past award winner. Hendricks, who died in an accident in late 2007, was the 2006 winner of the “Seize the Day” award from the Wisconsin Technology Council. His family agreed to rename the award to honor his persistence and vision while building ABC Supply Inc. and other entrepreneurial endeavors that helped to reshape Beloit and beyond. The 2008 winner will be announced June 10 during the annual Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Conference in Milwaukee. Milwaukee Recreation

Carmelo Cortes, an assistant supervisor for Milwaukee Recreation, recently received the Milwaukee Latino Forum’s 2008 Recognition Award for his service to the city’s Latino community. Cortes has worked for Milwaukee Recreation since 1981, and has served as director of the South Division Community Center for the past ten years. The Latino Forum holds regular community outreach events at South Division, and Cortes helps to schedule the organization’s meetings, information fairs, and activities for children with special needs. Milwaukee Recreation is a department of Milwaukee Public Schools, and was established in 1911 to provide the community with affordable and enriching recreational activities.

JADE International Inc., Brookfield, recently released version 7.0 of RapidCAT CMS. Version 7.0 of RapidCAT CMS focuses on search engine optimization and also includes new and enhanced reporting and many e-commerce enhancements including: search engine friendly URLs, enhanced search engine tracking code integration, cleaned up site map display, auto XML site map and robots.txt, enhanced SEO features, enhanced search engine conversion tracking, new abandoned cart report, new product report, new mail label feature, improved product import, product import mode and additional fields, advanced shipping module, new product number search, new advanced product sort, enhanced sales summary report, drill down to product, new product review feature and custom order forms. JADE International is an online marketing, web design and e-commerce solutions firm with offices in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

The Medical College of Wisconsin

The Medical College of Wisconsin, Wauwatosa, recently received a four-year, $1,293,730 grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences to investigate how anesthesia puts the brain in an unconscious state. The research may help unravel the mystery of consciousness, and lead to the development of novel methods for monitoring states of consciousness. Dr. Anthony Hudetz, professor of anesthesiology, physiology and biophysics at the Medical College, is principal investigator of the grant.

Wisconsin State Fair

The Governor’s Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction (GBRLA) Committee will celebrate its 40th Anniversary on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at the Wisconsin State Fair in West Allis. The first auction was held at the fairgrounds in 1968. Nearly 400 young people were recipients of proceeds from last year’s auction. Proceeds from the event contribute to the Premier Exhibitor Contest, Reserve Champion Market Animal Awards, GBRLA Scholarships, Camp of Champions and the Wisconsin Livestock Breeder’s annual Show Camp. Market Probe, Inc.

Market Probe, Milwaukee, was recently ranked as one of the 50 fastest growing Asian American Businesses by the U.S. Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation (USPAACC-EF). The award is based on percentage of revenue growth over 2005 to 2007. USPAACC is a non-profit organization representing all Asian Americans and Asian American-related groups in business, sciences, the arts, sports and education, public and community services. USPAACC-EF promotes, nurtures and propels economic growth by opening doors of contact, and developing educational and professional opportunities for Asian Americans and their business partners in corporate America, the federal government and the small and minority business community in the U.S. and Asia. The latest census figures show that there are over 1.1 million Asian American-owned companies with over $326 billion in business revenues and that they employ more than 2.2 million people.

Schunk Graphite Technology

Schunk Graphite Technology (www.schunkgraphite.com) of Menomonee Falls is the winner of one of the four awards presented recently by the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest (GACCoM) recently presented Merlin Awards.

The awards are given to companies representing excellence in German American trade. Schunk Graphite Technology received the “Best Innovator”, for its innovations in products for solar cell production and wind power generation.

The focus for the 2008 award was “go green.” Nominated companies were evaluated on the basis of advances made in the sphere of renewable energy or energy efficiency according to the GACCoM criteria. Schunk’s innovations in the areas of high temperature products for the production of solar cell raw materials and in new materials which improve the up-time and reduce maintenance on power generating wind mills were recognized for the award.

Arandell Corporation, Menomonee Falls, recently announced an increase in its co-mail capacity. The added capacity expands the company’s ability to accommodate the demand for co-mail that has resulted from the USPS 2007 Rate Case. Beyond its co-mail capacity, Arandell’s system offers participants more flexibility. Catalogs and publications of various formats and sizes can be combined. Saddle-stitched and perfect-bound catalogs and publications can be integrated into one mailstream, and there is also room for variance in trim size and thickness. Arandell Corporation is a privately-held printer that produces and distributes high-quality catalogs and custom publications for the world’s leading marketers.

Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin

The Neurophysiology Electroencephalography Laboratory at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Wauwatosa, recently received accreditation from the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists. This accreditation is awarded only to EEG labs meeting specific technical standards in data recordings, quality output and lab management. The award means the laboratory has met strict standards and is recognized as a place where patients and physicians can have confidence they are receiving quality diagnostics. The EEG lab is part of the Children’s Hospital Pediatric Neurology Program, which provides diagnosis and treatment for children with a wide range of neurological disorders through a number of subspecialty clinics. The program specializes in comprehensive services for the treatment of epilepsy in children including the newest drug therapies, vagal nerve stimulators, ketogenic diet and epilepsy surgery. Children’s Hospital is home to the largest and most advanced pediatric epilepsy monitoring unit in Wisconsin.

The Metropolitan Builder’s Association, Waukesha recently honored Image Makers Advertising of Waukesha, with three Sales & Marketing Achievement Awards. The awards include: the Gold Award for a brochure for Wimmer Brothers Realty, the Gold Award for a direct mail piece for Creative Maintenance Solutions, and the Bronze Award for a website for Guthrie & Frey Water Conditioning. The Sales & Marketing Achievement Awards salute MBA members’ finest efforts in advertising, marketing and sales over the past year. Entries were judged by three sets of judges from within the building industry not affiliated with the MBA. Image Makers Advertising is a full-service advertising agency located in downtown Waukesha.

U.S. Cellular

U.S. Cellular Store Manager Michael Blumer received the “My Boss is a Patriot” award from the Department of Defense for support of the Army National Guard and Reserve program. The award is given to employers who strongly support members of the armed forces.
