Aurora Health Care’s new $38 million Germantown Health Center, a renovated two-story, 76,000 square-foot building that once served as one of the health care system’s administrative office buildings, is now open.

The health center  includes an ambulatory surgery center as well as cancer, heart, women’s and orthopedic care clinics.

Aurora representatives estimate the center will serve around 325 patients each day.

“The Aurora Germantown Health Center will bring both new and expanded services to residents throughout the area,” said Carrie Killoran, executive vice president of Aurora Health Care’s Central Region, in a prepared statement. “The new same-day ambulatory surgery center will bring much needed surgery offerings to patients, while our cancer care program will help patients continue to receive the care they need while staying close to home. This is an investment in the health of this community, and we’re thrilled for this day to be here.”

Aurora announced plans to turn the building into a medical office and outpatient surgery center in April 2015. At the time, the building, located at W180 N11070 River Lane, was occupied by around 300 non-clinical Aurora administrative employees who have since been moved to different locations in the Milwaukee area.

The health center has six operating room in its surgery center, 16 oncology infusion bays and a healing garden to calm cancer patients in addition to dozens of exam rooms in its clinics. It is directly south of an existing Aurora office at N112 W17975 Mequon Road. Aurora representatives estimate that the two Germantown locations will staff a combined total of more than 100 physicians, 70 registered nurses and “an additional 170 caregivers” daily.

Hammel, Green & Abrahamson Architects designed the new facility, and the construction was led by Milwaukee-based C.G. Schmidt.

Aurora is hosting an open house for the public to tour the new health center on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. that will feature food, giveaways and appearances from former Green Bay Packers William Henderson, Gilbert Brown and Mark Tauscher, who will sign autographs.
