Aurora names new executives

Aurora Health Care has named Gerard Colman chief operating officer and Mike Lappin chief administrative officer.

Colman will be responsible for all clinical operations within Aurora. Colman comes to Aurora from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, a three-campus, 19,000-employee cancer care and research institute in Houston, where he served in a number of positions over the past nine years, most recently as senior vice president and chief of clinical operations.

“Gerard brings broad experience in leading operations for major health care institutions that will ensure we continue our journey forward in clinical transformation, medical group integration and population health management,” said Nick Turkal, MD, Aurora’s chief executive officer.

Colman joined Aurora on Feb. 3, succeeding Steve Bablitch, who served as chief operating officer on an interim basis. Bablitch’s new role will be Chief of Strategic Business Affairs.

Lappin, who has been a part of Aurora’s leadership for the past four years, will assume the position of chief administrative officer. In addition to his responsibilities as corporate secretary, chief officer for legal, compliance, government relations, internal audit, affiliation strategy and facilities management, lapin will now also lead information services and human resources.

“In addition to his current role, Mike now leads several important new business functions, including our efforts to forge new partnerships and affiliations with other health systems,” Turkal said. “This expanded role underscores his value to our organization.”
