What was the smartest thing your company did in the past year?
“In 2009, we decided to build a second Quintessa Medical Spa and office in Mequon. It was custom designed around the patient experience. We named it the Quintessa Aesthetic Center. We opened in January with a very large open house. The business has been extremely successful, and with the additional space we have, we can provide a better venue for educational seminars for the public, as well as educational events for professionals. We are also now more capable of performing investigative studies for medical technologies and devices.”
What’s new at your company?
“Quintessa Medical Spa was selected by Ulthera to be one of the few locations for the primary clinical release of their new device called Ultherapy. Ultherapy uses ultrasound waves to target the deeper layers of the face, and due to the focused energy, heat is generated that creates new collagen deposition. This new collagen tightens and lifts the brows, jowls, and laxity under the chin. Ultherapy is FDA approved for browlifting and is the only non-surgical device ever to be given a lift indication by the FDA. We also treat other areas of the face, and, in fact, we are starting to investigate its use on the upper chest, arms, and knees. Very exciting results with absolutely no down time.”
Do you plan to hire any additional staff or make any significant capital investments in your company in the next year?
“Yes, we are currently in the process of hiring and training five new staff members. We are also always looking at emerging technologies in order to assure our patients that they are receiving the best treatment options available.”
What will be your company’s main challenges in the next year?
“Our biggest challenge is to educate the public on the differences between various providers of cosmetic treatments. We are continuously promoting the fact that, as a double board certified facial plastic surgeon, overseeing some of the most experienced professionals in the field, we have an advantage over other centers. The public, if educated, has the opportunity to take advantage of this circumstance.”
What’s the hottest trend in your industry?
“Non-invasive, non-surgical options for facial rejuvenation. We are at the forefront of this technology, and though it has not been able to match our surgical results (yet, or maybe ever), we want to provide our clients with the most effective options available.”
Do you have a business mantra?
“Treat everyone as if they are in your family, and always strive for perfection in everything you do.”
From a business standpoint, who do you look up to?
“Steve Jobs.”
What was the best advice you ever received?
“Do what you love, and you’ll love what you do. In a similar sense, if you truly love what you do, you will be very successful. If you try to be successful doing something you don’t love, it is unlikely that you will succeed.”
What’s the funniest thing that ever happened to you in your career?
“At our Open House for the new Quintessa Aesthetic Center, we had some Magnums of Quintessa Wine from California. Quintessa is a very high end vineyard, but several attendees thought that we actually had our own vineyard and that we had named it Quintessa! That would be great, but that’s not the case.”
