Milwaukee County executive candidate Chris Abele has now put $1 million of his own money into the special election race, according to his latest campaign finance report.
During the latest reporting period, which runs Feb. 1 to March 21, Abele raised $414,859 and spent $638,579. Overall, Abele has reported raising $1.2 million and spending more than $1 million. Abele had $186,374 in his campaign account.
His opponent, Rep. Jeff Stone (R-Greendale) reported raising $208,523 during the reporting period and spending $205,995. He had $80,839 left in the bank.
Stone campaign manager Vi Hammelman said Stone has raised about $500,000 for the entire campaign. She said he recently spent $52,000 on TV and $15,000 on radio ads that didn’t show up on the latest report because it was purchased after the closing date.

The Democratic Party of Wisconsin on Thursday asked the Milwaukee County District Attorney to investigate Stone’s latest campaign finance report.
According to the Democrats, Stone filed his campaign finance report a day late, and it inflates contributions by at least $35,000, double-counts contributors, fails to properly list on-line contributions and omits required information of hundreds of donors.
"Republican Jeff Stone’s finance report is recklessly sloppy and purposely misleading, an attempt to hide bad practices at the same time creating a false sense of momentum," Democratic Party of Wisconsin chair Mike Tate said. "He filed his report a day late, in violation of the law. Now it is clear that the report itself represents a violation of the state’s campaign finance requirements."
