As manager of network management and engagement at the Obama Foundation’s My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, Javier Alaniz leads a team that supports communities to change inequitable systems and achieve positive life outcomes for boys and young men of color.
Over the past 18 months, Alaniz has expanded and strengthened the nationwide MBKA leadership network, convening more than 120 leaders from 60 communities to support their leadership in service to Black, brown and Indigenous youth, according to Laura Gehrman Rottier, principal alumni relations officer at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
“Javier’s passion for service and equity is demonstrated by his work experiences as well as time he spent as a Peace Corps volunteer supporting indigenous communities in the South Pacific. Last summer in honor of that work – as well as his two terms of service in AmeriCorps – Javier was awarded the inaugural Harris Wofford National Service Award from AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps,” Rottier said.
Alaniz also serves on the Glen Hills School District Equity Committee and as a mentor and speaker with Milwaukee Public Schools Black and Latino Male Achievement.
