ABV Social permanently closes at Mayfair Collection

Three restaurant tenants remain at Wauwatosa's mixed-use project after streak of closures

Sports bar and restaurant ABV Social has closed its doors after four years in business at the Mayfair Collection in Wauwatosa.

The restaurant’s last service day was Dec. 27. In a Facebook post the following day, ABV Social thanked patrons and staff, writing, “We will all miss everything from the building, those who entered it, the drinks, the food… new adventures here we come!”

ABV Social, located at 11200 W. Burleigh St., was the last of four concepts operated by Phoenix Hospitality Group. Its other Mayfair Collection restaurants, Osgood’s, CafĂ© Grace and Tacqueria El Jefe, all closed within the past year. The group had planned to open a new Italian restaurant in May at the former Cafe Grace site, but plans appear to have fallen through amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Phoenix Hospitality Group initially partnered with Milwaukee-based Bartolotta Restaurants to develop its four restaurant concepts, opening Osgood’s in 2015 and the other three in 2016 inside a 17,000-square-foot building. Bartolotta ended its management agreement with Phoenix in 2017.

In August, the Mayfair Collection also lost AJ Bombers and Smoke Shack Express, which closed as Milwaukee-based operator Hospitality Democracy sought to protect its businesses from the wrath of the COVID-19 crisis.

The recent streak of closures leaves the mixed-use project with the Corner Bakery Cafe, Golden Nest Pancakes & Cafe, and Pizza Man as its remaining restaurant tenants, in addition to several retail anchors including Whole Foods and Nordstrom Rack, as well as the new Synergy Apartments.
