Kenall Manufacturing has settled a lawsuit against Central Islip, New York-based
Clear-Vu Lighting over the company’s visible light disinfection technology.
Kenall licenses the technology for patents involved in the lawsuit from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland to provide its Indigo-Clean visible light disinfection products. Those products use light wavelengths to automatically and continuously disinfect air and surfaces in hospitals and other areas.
The company accused Clear-Vu of infringing on the patents in its promotional materials, while Clear-Vu contended it was only applying known, conventional technologies.
Clear-Vu also told the court in October that it had not made, sold or offered for sale any of the products shown in its literature and had no plans to sell any of the products.
The settlement calls for Clear-Vu to cease offering all visible light disinfection technology products, according to a Kenall announcement.
"Kenall is pleased to resolve this long-running litigation against Clear-Vu with the removal of disinfection lighting from their product offerings,” said Patrick Marry, president of Kenall. “With the dismissal of this litigation Kenall has successfully concluded all outstanding complaints concerning visible light disinfection technology."
Kenall also filed lawsuits against Oldenburg Group’s Visa Lighting, Cooper Lighting and New Star Lighting.
