Construction underway on Advocate Aurora medical center in Sheboygan County

Will replace Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center campus

Construction is underway on Advocate Aurora Health’s new $324 million medical center and office building in the village of Kohler.

Plans for the new Aurora Medical Center Sheboygan County complex include a 345,000-square-foot medical center and 115,000-square-foot medical office building on a 56-acre site northwest of Union Avenue (County Road TT) and South Taylor Drive, between the University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan campus and the Acuity corporate headquarters.

The complex will replace the health system’s existing Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center campus at 2629 N 7th St. in Sheboygan. Advocate Aurora expects to open the new facilities in 2022.

Advocate Aurora officials on Wednesday will celebrate construction on the project, which began earlier this summer.

The project has been in the works for several years. Aurora Health initially proposed in 2015 to build an $86 million ambulatory surgery and office building on the site of the Field of Dreams sports complex in Sheboygan to supplement its operations at Sheboygan Memorial. The hospital system later changed the location and expanded the scope of the project to build a full replacement hospital in addition to the medical office facility.

The health system has not disclosed plans for the existing Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center when the new complex opens.
