The Museum of Wisconsin Art will open a location within Saint Kate, Marcus Hotels & Resorts’ new independent arts hotel at the former InterContinental hotel in downtown Milwaukee.
The 1,700-square-foot gallery will be located on the first floor of the hotel, located at 139 E. Kilbourn Ave.
The gallery, called MOWA | DTN, will be an extension of MOWA’s 32,000-square-foot facility in West Bend. It will feature four to five changing exhibitions, artist talks and curator talks, as well as shuttles to and from the museum. Exhibitions will be free and open to the public.
“A collaboration of this stature between a museum and hotel is truly groundbreaking. This is unique in the museum industry,” said Laurie Winters, executive director and chief executive officer of MOWA. “MOWA is a resource for the entire state of Wisconsin. This collaboration will expand its artistic footprint further across the state, providing access to Wisconsin art for travelers and the Milwaukee community.”
The hotel, which is currently under renovation, is expected to open in late spring. The 219-room hotel will feature art-inspired guest rooms, a theater for plays, lectures, classes and performances, bars and lounges, an artist-in-residence studio and special event space.
