Finalists announced for Milwaukee Press Club contest

BizTimes Media will receive three awards in the annual Milwaukee Press Club Excellence in Wisconsin Journalism Contest for the design of the BizTimes Milwaukee magazine and the BizTimes.com website.

The Press Club on Friday announced the finalists for its annual awards, which will be presented at the club’s May 13 Gridiron Awards Dinner at the InterContinental Hotel in downtown Milwaukee. This year’s contest garnered more than 500 entries from throughout Wisconsin in professional and collegiate divisions. The competition was judged by 25 professional journalists and press clubs from throughout the U.S.

The winners of the gold, silver and bronze awards for each category will be announced at the Gridiron Awards Dinner.

BizTimes Milwaukee is a finalist for “Best Overall Design” in the Magazine-design category. The magazine is designed by art director Shelly Tabor and graphic designer Alex Schneider.

Tabor and Schneider are also finalists for the “Best Single Cover Design” award in the Magazine-design category for the Aug. 24, 2015 cover of the magazine.

The newly designed BizTimes.com website, which debuted in October, is a finalist for the “Best Website Design” award. The website was designed by Brookfield-based Lanex LLC. The redesign project was led by BizTimes Media director of strategic initiatives Jon Anne Willow, with involvement from BizTimes staff including publisher Dan Meyer, editor Andrew Weiland and managing editor Molly Dill.

BizTimes Milwaukee reporter Corrinne Hess is a finalist for “Best Explanatory Story or Series” for an article she wrote in 2015 as a freelancer for Milwaukee Magazine about the Dontre Hamilton case.
