GE Healthcare announced Monday it will move its global headquarters to Chicago from the United Kingdom in the coming months.
In announcing the move, the company said the change would enable the executive leadership team to be closer to Chicago and Milwaukee, while also remaining near an international transportation hub.
GE Healthcare president and CEO John Flannery said the company was excited to strengthen its roots in the Windy City.
“Chicago has a rich industrial heritage, terrific international transportation links and is close to some of the world’s leading healthcare and academic institutions. It is also ideally located for many of GE Healthcare’s operations,” Flannery said.
The headquarters were previously in Amersham, United Kingdom. The company’s U.S. operations are currently based in Wauwatosa.
“There is very limited employee impact (from the global headquarters move) in Wisconsin, which will remain a hub for global manufacturing and leadership, as well as the global headquarters for several GE Healthcare businesses – including CT, MR, X-Ray, Services and LCS,” GE Healthcare spokesman Benjamin Fox said in an email, noting that it would put the company’s CEO and global headquarters closer geographically for Wisconsin businesses.
GE Healthcare is an $18 billion unit of General Electric that provides medical technologies and services.
