A Holiday Inn that has occupied premier space along Lake Michigan in Port Washington for more than 40 years is being sold in an online auction.

Bidding for the 96-key hotel at 135 East Grand Ave., begins on Dec. 14 at auction.com. The online auction will last two days with a starting bid of $1.75 million.

The five-story hotel was built in 1974 and renovated in 2014. It is  located on 1.3 acres in downtown Port Washington and features the  Rusty Anchor Saloon and Eatery, an indoor pool, fitness center, game room, outdoor recreation facility, business center and meeting space.

According to www.auction.com, the hotel is 62 percent occupied.

Hotel industry analyst and president of New Berlin-based Hospitality Marketers International Inc., Greg Hanis said given the age of the Holiday Inn, he’s not surprised the building is being sold.

“I’m surprised it’s still a Holiday Inn,” Hanis said.

Gertjan van den Broek, a Port Washington resident and CEO of Renew Port Holdings, was interested in redeveloping the Holiday Inn building at the end of the Great Recession, but the deal never came to fruition, Hanis said.

Van den Broek could not immediately be reached for comment.
