The Milwaukee M7 Creative Industries Defined
Comprising 66,707 jobs, $2 billion in wages, and 4 percent of all regional jobs (proportionately higher than in Wisconsin or the U.S.) the seven-county, Southeastern Wisconsin creative industries are defined as those organizations, individuals, and companies whose products and services originate in artistic, cultural, creative and/or aesthetic content. This set of interlocking industry segments includes for-profit creative businesses, non-profit arts and cultural organizations, and individual creatives as sole proprietors which create, produce and distribute these types of products and services.
A Key Regional Industry
The Milwaukee 7 Creative Industries are differentiated by their “maker” focus with strong relationships between design and manufacturing; diversity and quality of arts and cultural assets; blend of old world culture and young creative talent; and our fabric of ethnic contributions. They are a significant part of the regional economy, accounting for about as many jobs as the construction and transportation industries.
