The United Way of Greater Milwaukee has announced its 2010 campaign fundraiser goal

The United Way of Greater Milwaukee has announced its goal to raise $45,750,000 in 2010. The projected goal is $750,000 higher than the fundraising goal in 2009.
“United Way of Greater Milwaukee’s support for our community is unparallel. Let’s make certain it stays strong and continues to grow,” said Mary Lou Young, president and CEO of United Way of Greater Milwaukee. “This year we urge people to direct all or part of their gifts to United Way of Greater Milwaukee to use where the needs are greatest, supporting programs in the strategic focus areas of education, income and health, and funding urgent needs as they emerge.”
The announcement was made at Miller Park during a special announcement celebration last night.
Imani Agara, a high school junior who participated in United Way-funded Teen Achievers program at the YMCA of Greater Milwaukee sang the national anthem. Last year, 100 percent of the Teen Achievers program participants graduated from high school and went on to earn a post secondary education.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, of the nations largest 100 metropolitan area only ten other areas lost more jobs than the greater Milwaukee community since 2000. That, along with an increased need in the community, helped determine this year’s projected goal.
In 2009, The United Way of Greater Milwaukee raised $45,535,143. This year’s campaign co-chairs are Rick Graber, vice president of government relations at Honeywell International; Lynn Sprangers, consultant; and Dr. Nick Turkal, president and CEO of Aurora Health Care. United Way of Greater Milwaukee’s 2010 campaign runs through December 9.
