With the help of environmental legislator Spencer Black, Milwaukee County Supervisor. Chris Larson raised $27,422 in June as he launched his Dem primary challenge of state Sen. Jeff Plale (D-South Milwaukee).
However, Plale, a conservative Dem who Black blamed for thwarting the “Clean Energy Jobs Act” this past legislative session, raised $35,452 for the full six-month period that ended June 30. Plale had $33,188 in his warchest, giving him an advantage over Larson, who reported $19,032 in the bank.
Larson’s donors included the retiring Black (D-Madison), who donated $1,000, plus state Rep. Fred Kessler (D-Milwaukee), who donated $25; Milwaukee Alderman Nic Kovac, $50; and Alderman Bob Bauman, $100. Fellow Milwaukee County Supervisor Marina Dimitrijevic gave him an in-kind contribution of $91.
Larson reported spending $10,106.
Plale’s contributions include at least $5,300 from executives associated with the state’s utility industry. Plale, who has championed cable and telecom deregulation while in office, also pulled in at least $3,050 from executives in those fields. In addition, he received a $25 donation from the campaign committee of state Rep. Christine Sinicki (D-Milwaukee), who has endorsed his re-election.
Plale reported spending $11,024 for the period.
