Learn more about:

Andis Co., a Sturtevant-based manufacturer of clippers, trimmers and related hair care products, is planning a 50,000-square-foot addition to its more than 100,000-square-foot facility.

The company has told Sturtevant Village Administrator Mark Januk that it plans to break ground on the $2.3 million addition in April and hopes to have the project completed by the end of 2010. Most of the expansion space will be used for warehousing and distribution, Januk said.

Andis employs about 350 people, according to the company’s web site. The company expects to add five to seven jobs when the expansion is completed, Januk said.

Sturtevant’s village board and community development authority recently approved a $130,000 incentive for Andis. The funds will be repaid over time, as the company’s facility lies within a tax incremental financing district, Januk said.

“(The repayment) will come from incremental improvement (in property values within the district),” he said.

An Andis spokesperson did not return a call seeking comment.
