As a civil and municipal engineering firm, Ruekert & Mielke has worked with communities and municipalities, to fix sewer, water source, drainage and road problems for the last 50 years. According to Mike Campbell, chief operating officer of Ruekert & Mielke, the firm helps guide communities through the entire process from planning to project bidding to construction management.

The company’s work has garnered Ruekert & Mielke many acknowledgements and awards. The firm’s Pigeon Creek Flood Mitigation project was named one of the top 10 storm mitigation projects in 2010 and its Well No. 13 project in Muskego became Ruekert & Mielke’s most highly awarded project after winning five awards.

Ruekert & Mielke’s primary focus is helping communities, Campbell said. The firm specializes in municipal infrastructure management and financing, so the firm often must determine how to finance projects for the long term liability of the infrastructure systems while working with a community’s budget and the grants they have received, he said.

The engineers at Ruekert & Mielke work to find solutions to community problems like flooding and drainage that personally affect residents. This personal level of interaction has allowed Ruekert & Mielke to make strong personal relationships with the communities they have helped.

Ruekert & Mielke also serves as an official records keeper for the communities and municipalities where the firm has done work, Campbell said.

Communities may go through leadership transitions, but Ruekert & Mielke keeps a digital log of all observations, calculations and records of each project done in each community and has the ability to provide the data to a community or municipality in the future, Campbell said.

The long time history and relationships built with each community not only benefit Ruekert & Mielke but the communities and residents first hand. The relationships Ruekert & Mielke has fostered are beneficial even long after completing a project, Campbell said.

Having a community’s best interest in mind keeps Ruekert & Mielke focused on people and the effects these problems have on them directly. The engineers at Ruekert & Mielke feel gratified when they can fix a city’s infrastructure problems directly affecting the people that live in the community,” Campbell said.
