Selig to speak at MCW commencement

Major League Baseball commissioner, Bud Selig will speak at the Medical College of Wisconsin’s 98th annual commencement ceremony on Friday, May 20 at the Milwaukee Theater. In addition to delivering the commencement address, Selig will also be awarded an honorary Doctor of Science degree.
Selig was named the ninth Commissioner of baseball in 1998 and has been the driving force behind many of the leagues structural changes. During his tenor, Major League Baseball set its all-time regular season attendance record each year from 2004-2007.  With more than 73 million fans in 2009 and 2010, the last seven years represent the seven highest-attended seasons in baseball history.  Revenues have increased more than five-fold.
Selig and his wife Suzanne, spearheaded Major League Baseball’s industry-wide support of the fight against cancer.
Ted and Mary Kellner, Milwaukee philanthropists will receive honorary degrees for their contributions to health and education initiatives. Bryon Riesch, founder of the Bryon Riesch Paralysis Foundation will also receive an honorary degree.
In addition to the honorary degrees, three faculty members at the Medical College will be honored with Distinguished Service Awards, the College’s highest faculty honor.  They include: Douglas Campbell, the Medical College’s retired chief operating officer, Cecilia Hillard, Ph.D., professor and director of the graduate neuroscience program, and Hubert Forster, Ph.D., professor of physiology.
