Back up

Businesses are more reliant on computers and other high tech tools than ever before. The storage of their files, information and data depends on computer equipment functioning properly.

It can be devastating for businesses when their computer systems fail, and information is lost.

According to Gary Swick, president of Milwaukee-based Swick Technologies, data loss accounts for $12 billion in costs annually.

Every business has a “death clock,” Swick said. A death clock can be defined as how long a business can survive without access to servers and other technology that holds valuable data.

“Large Fortune 500 companies have a significant enterprise system in place,” Swick said. “They have back-up replicas of their information in multiple locations. It takes them seconds to get back up and running.”

Swick Technologies has implemented a back up and recovery system that historically only large companies could afford and made it available to smaller and mid-sized firms as a service through its Safety Net solution, Swick said.

“We can now offer what we consider to be the best back up system available to small and midsize companies,” Swick said. “We have three different levels of protection that can be customized to fit the needs of each individual company.”

Companies can take advantage of a plan that ensures full business continuity and recovery within minutes of equipment failure or disaster, Swick said.

The Safety Net product also offers basic backup technology and business resumption technology for companies that may not need the highest level business continuity for their systems.

“We can help a company decide the right customization for them,” Swick said. “Our team of professionals will go over what information is stored on a company’s equipment. Part of our service is to make sure we get the right information backed up.”

Large companies typically have a full service IT department to handle technology needs and system recovery. But small to midsize companies usually don’t need a full time IT staff, and Swick Technologies can stand in as the system recovery, data back up team, Swick said.

The entire service is provided remotely.

“Initially we’ll do an onsite consultation and installation of the recovery systems, but then we’ll be able to remotely replicate all data and information in secure data storage locations,” Swick said.

“It guarantees stability. The more stable your network is the more productive you can be as a company,” Swick said. “Every business benefits from solutions based on industry best practices and corporate standards, and we provide those solutions to your business at an affordable price that is easy to budget for.”

The Safety Net solution is offered at a flat monthly cost depending on the level of security a company desires, Swick said.

“Data recovery is a difficult thing for companies to wrap their heads around,” Swick said. “You don’t realize how significant recovery can be unless you actually experience a disaster.”

Swick Technologies has never lost a company’s data, Swick said. And internally, Swick said he makes sure all back ups are done properly and at the designated intervals.

The company has helped other businesses recover information after floods, other natural disasters and human errors, Swick said.

“The important thing to remember is that servers will fail. They get old. They get worn out, and no piece of technology is perfect. Having the right back up system in place is crucial,” Swick said. “We want to make sure everything is backed up properly, so business owners can focus on running their business. If and when a company experiences a technology failure we can have them back up and running just like the disaster never happened.”
