As the American Cancer Society prepares for its 2015 Relay For Life of Milwaukee Fundraiser, now in its 21st year, the organization is working to recruit teams from area businesses, schools, families and community groups.
Relay For Life of Milwaukee will take place in Cathedral Square Park in downtown Milwaukee on Friday, June 19, from noon to 10 p.m. The event, part of a global series of American Cancer Society fundraising events, unites individuals in the fight against cancer and honors those who have been impacted by the disease. The event is grounded by a relay in which team participants take turns walking around a track as part of their fundraising commitment. The event also features a survivor ceremony and walking lap along with a special luminaria ceremony to remember individuals who have lost their struggle with cancer.
Additionally, this year’s event will include fitness classes, picnic games and live music onsite.
“Relay For Life events are a great way to bring a community together to celebrate, remember and take action for those that have battled cancer,” Allison Klein, community manager at the American Cancer Society said in a press release. “We’re excited to bring such an exciting event to Downtown Milwaukee and encourage everyone in the area to participate and ask their family and friends to join them on June 19.”
To date, 19 Milwaukee teams are registered and close to $17,500 has been raised.
