The Medical College of Wisconsin can now begin recruiting for its first class of 25 students at its new central Wisconsin campus. MCW-Central Wisconsin is scheduled to open in July 2016.

The Medical College announced Tuesday that it received accreditation determinations from two key accrediting bodies: the Liaison Committee for Medical Education (LCME), which determined that resources appear adequate to support the establishment of MCW-Central Wisconsin, and the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), which accredits degree-granting post-secondary schools.

“Our curriculum and development teams have worked tirelessly to ensure high-quality medical education for students at MCW-Milwaukee and our new regional campuses in Green Bay and Central Wisconsin,” said Dr. Joseph Kerschner, executive vice president of MCW and dean of the School of Medicine.  “Our healthcare, academic and community partners are critical to our success and we are grateful for their collaboration as we enter this exciting new era of medical education in Wisconsin.”

MCW-Central Wisconsin will utilize an immersive, calendar-efficient three-year educational model that leverages the strength of those partners.

Classroom and administrative spaces are being constructed at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Academic partners include Northcentral Technical College, University of Wisconsin – Marathon County, University of Wisconsin – Marshfield/Wood County and University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point.

MCW-Central Wisconsin is partnering with central Wisconsin area physician groups and health systems including Aspirus, Ministry Health Care and the Tomah VA Medical Center.
