Gilda’s Club of Southeastern Wisconsin, Inc. – a free support program for cancer victims of all backgrounds suffering from all types of cancer – is taking on a new name to better reflect its mission and its association with its national affiliate. The organization, a member of Cancer Support Community, now exists as Cancer Support Community Greater Milwaukee.
Originally created in memory of comedienne Gilda Radner, the support program offers cancer patients support tailored toward individual needs at every stage of illness, including diagnosis, treatment, post-treatment, survivorship and end of life. Support comes from seminars and workshops, networking groups and social connections among other program elements. Businesses, hospitals and organizations across Greater Milwaukee help make these elements possible through a partnership with Cancer Support Community.
The national operation consists of more than 50 centers and more than 100 satellite locations.
Executive director of Cancer Support Community Greater Milwaukee Trish Haudricourt insists that the new name won’t change any part of the organization’s mission.
“As part of our mission, we sustain people with community,” Haudricourt said in a statement. “We are a community of hope, and since 2010 we have been delivering our cancer support program in concert with the community to our friends and neighbors where they live, work and worship.”
